Penguins Swim School For details of our Learn to Swim Scheme, please use the link above. ****We currently have vacancies in most learn to swim classes**** Harlow Open Meet We are now taking entries for our first Open Meet, since moving to the new LeisureZone pool. Please see link on left-hand menu. This gala will be run in honour of Eric Shepherd, one of the original founders and coaches of the Club. ASA Level 3ER2337, on Sat. 30th June 2012, over two sessions. Harlow Penguins swimmers please support this gala by entering as many races as you can. This is an essential means of raising money for your club. Harlow Penguins AGM The Annual General Meeting will take place at 7pm to 9pm Wednesday 23 May 2012 Harlow LeisureZone - Committee Room June/July galas Last call this Friday 2nd March for entries to Norwich, Waltham Forest and Halstead. We particularly want many more entries to Halstead. Please look at our "gala dates" page where QTs and entry forms are now ready for download for: Braintree Harlow Open! City of Cambridge Please bring you entry forms to Jason Hills on Friday. Make sure that you complete the form fully. If you do not know your times, please ask Martin for results from the recent Time Trials, or to calculate a time for you. Club Timetrial Results Well done to everyone who took part in Club Time Trials on 24th February. There were some fantastic PBs, and many swimmers competing for the first time. Here are the full results. Please ask your coach for feedback on your swimming technique. Essex Age Group Championships Block A events took place on 18th Feb. 2012. Tomas Stevens National swimmer for Hoddesdon last year, returned to swimming for Harlow and Essex in 2012 and set a new Championship record for 50m Back in 28.82s. Silvester, Bradley and Mason also made the finals; with Kyle, Amy, Chloe, Jasmine, Ellie and Owen all ranking highly in Essex. After just two years swimming in our new pool, Harlow Penguins is back with County and Regional swimmers... and this is only Block A. Two more rounds to come. Head Coach's Report. Essex Mini League At Saturdays Essex Mini League gala at Halstead, Penguins took the chance to introduce some new swimmers to competitive swimming and gave some squad members the opportunity to compete in events they might not normally swim in. Overall there were 22 PB's in 32 individual swims and the club gained 2 first place finishes, Hannah Bishop, swimming in her first Club league gala set a PB of 44.28 in the 10 & U 50m Back. Kate Henshall also gained a first in the 10 & U 50m Breast, her time of 51.07 was also a PB. In addition to the first places there were 9 second place finishes all in PB times. Swimming for the Club for the first time were, Ewan Bulloch, Jack Howlett, Charlotte Hartgrove and Olivia Burn who showed some great potential and this gala was great experience for them. Martin Stringer, Head Coach Results: Epping Forest 13 Nov 2011 Not so many medals due to the combined age grouping, but an amazing set of results for Harlow Penguins. Many swimmers coming 1-3 in their individual age. There were 44 PBs out of 57 swims. County Times for 3 fantastic new young swimmers: Ellie Hind 9 (100m IM), Silvester Havrillay 9 (100m IM, 50m Free, 50m Fly, 50m Breast 50m Back) and Owen Stringer 9-10 (100m IM) County Times for senior swimmers: Bradley Veitch 12-13 (100m IM 50m Fly, 50m Free) - all Gold medals, Mason Arnold 14 (50m Fly, 50m Free) - plus more Gold medals in 200m IM and 50m Back. Manager's report and full results A very popular and successful meet. Well done! Penguins win Sports Awards Against very worthy competition, Harlow Penguins Swimming Club received the 2008 Harlow Community Sports Club of the Year trophy. Club Coach, Carmen Byfield also won the trophy for Coach of the Year, presented to her by Graham Gooch. Neil Mann, Head of swimming at Stewards School, received an award for his Services to Sport. Our congratulations to all winners, who will now be put forward to the Essex Sports Awards. Tribute to Eric Shepherd Harlow Penguins Vice President and Essex County ASA judge, Eric Shepherd passed away in May 2008. He will be greatly missed by all his friends, colleagues and swimmers. Leave a message on our website... Penguins British Record! Harlow Penguins' Masters swimmer Alyson Fordham took victory at the Masters Championship, Sheffield, in the 50-54 Age Group, in 100m and 200m Freestyle, for which she set a new British Record of 2:27.90. Congratulations on a fantastic achievement! Enquiries: join@harlowpenguins.com call Debbie Tee: 07787 318558 Masters Swimming Masters swimming takes place Monday morning 6.15am to 7.15am and Friday nights 8pm - 9pm. Fees are currently £15 a month. Sessions are organised by Sarah Stringer. please contact Sarah via the following e-mail masters@harlowpenguins.com. Penguins on Facebook If you're a Facebook user, please join our Group "Harlow Penguins" to receive fast notices to your phone. Check your results! Its now possible to enter your surname on the British Swimming website and find your ASA#. Using your ASA# it is then possible to check your PBs whenever you swam at a licensed meet (non-licensed are not recorded). This proves your eligibility to enter the County Champs. Long Course time conversions Swimmers who enter Long Course meets and whose fastest time was set at Short Course, need to convert this using one of the following tables available on the ASA website. Obviously you can also use the tables in the opposite direction if you set a PB at Long Course. Swimming techniques: videos of the world's best, from YouTube. LeisureZone Swimming Groups Young swimmers arriving for 6pm or 6.30 lessons must arrive 10 mins beforehand. Parents will be let through the gate and must accompany children to the poolside where each teacher will take the register for that group. After the lesson, parents must collect swimmers from poolside. Young children will not be allowed off poolside until a parent can be identified. Anyone who doesn't yet know their Learn to Swim class on a Friday, please phone Debbie, or ask at the desk on Friday. Parents' responsibilities We request that parents of learn to swims stay onsite during the lesson. This is for any reason where your swimmer needs to leave the pool early. Parents of squad swimmers must leave a mobile phone number and be available to return promptly if you child needs to leave the water. Parents must deliver swimmers to the building and collect them from the building promptly after the session. HPSC cannot monitor the safety of children left in the carpark. Thank you.
