Autumn gala programme Please note a correction to our gala timetable: the Waltham Forest 100s is a Winter meet. details of the Waltham Forest Oct. meet are now up and these include all 50s. Qualifying Times and entry forms may be downloaded from the gala dates link on the menu bar above. We want as many swimmers as possible at the Waltham Forest Autumn gala on 16/17 Oct. Carmen will time swimmers on Friday night. Besides Stortford, this is the best opportunity for 50s for the over 12s. Under 12s can swim 50s at Killerwhales. Anne will be available to help with entries on Friday 27 Aug and 3 Sept. Please return your entries and cheques to Anne by 3 September. LeisureZone Swimming Groups Young swimmers arriving for 6pm or 6.30 lessons must arrive 10 mins beforehand. Parents will be let through the gate and must accompany children to the poolside where each teacher will take the register for that group. After the lesson, parents must collect swimmers from poolside. Young children will not be allowed off poolside until a parent can be identified. Anyone who doesn't yet know their Learn to Swim class on a Friday, please phone Claire, or ask at the desk on Friday. Or check this PDF file of swimming groups. Masters Swimming Please note: change in timetable for LeisureZone as affects Masters and early morning swimming. Due to staff shortages we cannot yet introduce weekend or early morning Masters swimming. Please check our new timetable. We hope to introduce morning Masters on Mon, Tue, Thur if we can get 12 Masters willing to pay £30 a month. Until then fees will be £15 for the Wed and Fri swims only. If you wish to join Masters, please call Jonathan or Claire on the numbers above, or email secretary@harlowpenguins.com Hoddesdon Open gala First gala of the new season on 4th September at Southbury Road, Enfield. This is one of only two unlicenced meets in the season that has no lower entry times. First time gala entrants should take advantage of this friendly meet. Entries to Anne Reynolds by 26 June (see her on Friday night at LeisureZone). Canvey Island Level3 - Results Seven swimmers attended the Canvey Island Level 3 sprint meet on Saturday 22nd May 2010. Mason, Danny, Joel, Luke, Jasmine, Filip and Bradley each managed at least one PB. It was particularly successful for Filip and Mason who each achieved 3 PBs from 4 races. Seven medals were won. Mason took 3rd for 50m 12y boys backstroke in 38.32. Bradley took 4th for 50m boys 11y freestyle in 35.43 and a 5th place in 50m breaststroke. Filip took two 5th place medals in backstroke and 100m IM, and a PB for Luke in 50m boys 13y fly in 35.65 gained him a 5th place medal. Jasmine won 6th place in 50m breaststroke with a PB of 45.87. Despite a long and hot day, and illness which eventually caused Danny to withdraw from the breaststroke, all swimmers were a credit to their club and behaviour was exemplary. It was fun to see Danny swim anchor in a Canvey Island hat for the cannon relay where he came 2nd, but more importantly his involvement ensured 7 other swimmers could take part. Download swimmers results. Round 2 Junior Speedo took place at Enfield Leisure Centre, Southbury Road; Sunday 23rd May. For some this was their first event: Ellie Dee, Olivya Holleyman and Edward Padfield. Penguins scored 55 more points than in Round 1 (despite three swimmers pulling out on the day) and finished 7th. Some of our older swimmers had competed the day before at Canvey Island's gala, but they valiantly turned out again. (Canvey pulled out - more points to us). Many thanks to all those who helped on poolside - Carmen(coach), Nicola (Judge), Cathy (Timekeeper), Su ( Assistant Coach), Claire ( Split timing), Amy (Assistant Manager) and the only male, John (Assistant Manager). Please see full results which include some fantastic personnal bests. Summer Galas There are Summer galas at Braintree 4th July and Waltham Forest 18th July. These are 50m galas ideal for young swimmers. Also entries must be made early to Bishops Stortford gala on 25/26 September. Download the entry forms and QT information from the "gala dates" calendar on the menu bar. Entries must be with Anne by 27th May. Round 1 Junior Speedo took place at Braintree; Sunday 25th April. Penguins scored 97 points to come 7th. There were some great individual swims, particularly from our older swimmers, with Mason and Magnus coming 1st and 2nd. However, HPSC is still such a small club we lack sufficient swimmers in each age group. Therefore we swam over-age in several races for which we received no points; and many young swimmers swam up and did extremely well despite not picking up many points. Please see full results sheet. Essex County Championships Block D Filip Kusnir swam 200m breaststroke in the 9 year category in 3:54.97 and placed 6th. With 148 BAGCAT points. As a finalist this will earn him a position next year at an Essex training camp, a coverted Essex hat, and County BAGCAT certificate. Neil Mann - Tel. 01279 772521 Parents' responsibilities We request that parents of learn to swims stay onsite during the lesson. This is for any reason where your swimmer needs to leave the pool early. Parents of squad swimmers must leave a mobile phone number and be available to return promptly if you child needs to leave the water. Parents must deliver swimmers to the building and collect them from the building by 9pm. HPSC cannot monitor the safety of children left in the carpark. Thank you. Its now possible to enter your surname on the British Swimming website and find your ASA#. Using your ASA# it is then possible to check your PBs whenever you swam at a licensed meet (non-licensed are not recorded). This proves your eligibility to enter the County Champs. Penguins win Sports Awards Against very worthy competition, Harlow Penguins Swimming Club received the 2008 Harlow Community Sports Club of the Year trophy. Club Coach, Carmen Byfield also won the trophy for Coach of the Year, presented to her by Graham Gooch. Neil Mann, Head of swimming at Stewards School, received an award for his Services to Sport. TRIBUTE TO ERIC SHEPHERD Harlow Penguins Vice President and Essex County ASA judge, Eric Shepherd passed away in May 2008. He will be greatly missed by all his friends, colleagues and swimmers. Harlow Penguins' Masters swimmer Alyson Fordham took victory at the Masters Championship, Sheffield, in the 50-54 Age Group, in 100m and 200m Freestyle, for which she set a new British Record of 2:27.90.
