About the Club

Harlow Penguins is a friendly, competitive swimming club, catering for swimmers of all abilities and ages, and provides a structure that will enable them to progress from beginners to National Championships.

For details of fees, training times, qualification criteria of each of the squads please see Swim Squads webpage where there are summary details of each squad and a link to each Squad webpage.

Our dedicated Swim School provides learn to swim lessons from the age of 4. Lessons are planned and assessed following the ASA National Plan for Teaching of Swimming (NPTS). Swim school covers Stages 1 – 5 of the NPTS.

Following on our dedicated Swim School, Academy aims to provide youngsters with expert technique work to help them become proficient and legal in all four strokes and is aimed at children who want to improve and develop into competitive swimmers. Academy covers Stages 6 – 7 of the NPTS and the Competitive Start Award.

Swim Squads

Penguins is a competitive swimming club and our squads are set up to provide a clear pathway for swimmers who are looking to build stamina, refine strokes and start competing on a regular basis to those looking to achieve County, Regional and National qualifying times. Our main squads are County Squad for those senior swimmers who may wish to continue compete or just maintain fitness, our Masters Squad provides an excellent “social” environment to achieve this.

As a club we compete in the: We also encourage our swimmers to compete individually at Open and Designated meets representing Harlow Penguins at all times.

Swim School
If your child requires learn to swim lessons, please contact us by e-mail, to the following address: LearntoSwim@HarlowPenguins.com,

In your e-mail, please provide us with details of your child, name, age and any information on their swimming ability.

If they are currently a member of another swim school, please provide us with details of any badges they may have achieved, either distance badges or ASA Learn to Swim Stage awards.

We will arrange a trial (if required) to assess your child's ability and wherever possible we will place them into a class to match their ability. Please note, if a place is not available we maintain a short waiting list.

There will be a reception desk at LeisureZone on Friday evenings from 6.00pm, where you can pay fees due or ask the Committee members present to answer any questions you may have.

Competitive Swimmers
If you are currently in a swim school and would like to try out for competitive swimming, please contact us by e-mail, using the link below with your enquiry: join@harlowpenguins.com.

We hold regular trials As a new swimmer and you will be assessed by one of the Penguins competitive squad coaches. After a short in-water assessment of your swimming ability, you may be invited to join the squad best suited to your level of ability for a “trial session”. This is of course, being subject to space in that squad.

If you are already swimming competitively and would like to join the club, in the first instance you should contact the Membership Secretary who will direct you to the appropriate squad coach. It would be a good idea to have details of your ASA Registration No and PB’s to hand in order to assist in determining your current level.
