Harlow Penguins swimming squads
From the learn to swim lessons in our Penguins Swim School to our County Squad enabling swimmers to compete at the highest level and achieve National qualifying times, our Swim Squads provide coaching and teaching for swimmers of all abilities and ages. In addition, we provide expert coaching for our more senior swimmers in our Masters squad.
Penguins swim school
Penguins Swim School provides a full range of swimming lessons at Harlow Leisurezone and follow the ASA National Plan for Teaching of Swimming (NPTS).

Penguins Development Academy
Development is split into 2 sections, dependant on age:
For the junior Academy swimmers, Level 4 is the Club's first competitive squad and is designed for swimmers who are looking to build stamina, refining strokes and start competing on a regular basis.
Seniors Development swimmers may compete on a regular basis, and will be looking to improve times with an aim of working towards and gaining County qualifying times. For swimmers to progress they must be focused in training, determined to do well and have a good attendance.
County is Penguins main competitive squad and is aimed at swimmers who as a minimum will be within 10% of Essex County Qualifying times and will be aiming to achieve County, Regional and National qualifying times.
As with Development Squad, County is split into 2 sections, dependant on age:
Harlow Penguin Masters offers structured training and competition for adult swimmers aged 18 and over.
We welcome new members of all standards, initially speed is not paramount but the aim of the group is to develop a competitively minded group of swimmers by way of structured coaching.
Several of our members also compete in open water events and we welcome members who compete in triathlons.
When attending sessions, swimmers are expected to deliver high standards of training. Detailed below are some guidelines on what to expect:
Remember - don't swim if you are ill, especially if you have an open wound or a stomach upset.
All swimmers must attend each session with the following:
Goggles – please ensure your child has two pairs of goggles, preferably of the same type. The most important aspect of goggles is that they fit, do not leak and stay on, not that they look good!
(short) – again fit is important, your child’s feet grow, please ensure their fins fit. If they are too small, this may cause cramp which wastes time in training.
Drink Bottle 75ml - 1L – please note the drinks advice above.
Asthmatics should ensure that they have an inhaler at the poolside and must have completed an ASA Medical Form.
