Competition -
Please note a few generalisations worth taking into account when considering these QTs, and indeed also the PB times of your child. Apart from Open Meets, there are no designated Meets with 100m events for boys under the age of 12. Girls may begin 100m aged 11. At age 11 boys are not yet developed for 100m races yet girls physically are. This has been like this for many years, and Essex ASA do not publish QTs for boys at this distance, whereas they do for girls. Aged 9, 10 and 11 girls are physically stronger than boys (in the water) and in general make faster swimmers. At age 12 the boys get much stronger physically and much quicker and this is why QTs become much harder. Below the age of 12 Essex QTs are harder for girls than boys. All QTs from National down to County (eg Essex) are based on the previous years entries. If the QT is too easy then far too many swimmers can compete - if it is too hard then the reverse is true. Therefore the QT seems to have been a lot harder last year than this (perhaps not many qualified as a result) - Essex committee do reserve the right to lift the bar during the swimming season as QTs are really guideline only.
