2005/6 Club Championships (26th Feb)
25m, 50m and 100m races

In an extremely warm and humid pool 63 young Harlow Penguin swimmers between 6 and 17 years of age competed in all four strokes over various distances dependent on age. There were 330 competitive swims with only a handful of disqualifications between them.

Club Coach, Alan Mitchell, was extremely impressed by the level of excellent swimming at today's gala. The range of abilities in the Senior swimmers plus up and coming Junior swimmers shows that we are a very strong club. Our recent win in Essex league plus domination in the 50m Essex County Championships is down to the hard work put in by all the swimmers - but as usual there is still plenty of room for improvement!!

As usual at these events there is the normal set of hiccups. Many apologies to the parents that the results were not able to be displayed on the windows behind the spectator gallery. The printer would not work so everything had to be done by hand which prevented me from showing the results. Many apologies to the swimmers for not making any medal presentations and not running the 100m medley races. Again because of the printer problems the gala slowed down to the extent that we had to ensure we could finish the Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly events. The medal presentations will now be on Friday 11th March (7pm for 8 & under age group and 8pm for 9+ age groups). Time trials will be delayed be a further week to the 17th March - the 100m medley races are likely to be swam on Friday 24th march tbc)
