Harlow Penguins excel at Bishops Stortford Open meet (10th July 2004)
Bishops Stortford ran their 11th annual 50m sprint meet at Harlow pool on Saturday 10th July 2004. This year they brought their Electronic Timing equipment which cost in excess of £20k but was well received by swimmers, coaches and parents alike. Everyone liked it so much that we are currently negotiating with Bishops Stortford to hire it for our own Open meet!!
Our 30 plus swimmers achieved 21 first places, 11 second and 11 third places. In addition our swimmers also won 21 other podium positions. In total our haul of 64 medals out of 420 was excellent considering the quality and quantity (in excess of 300 swimmers) at the pool.
Special mention goes to Karl Batorski who won 5 first places and just missed the GB record time in the 100IM. Karl can still achieve this at Stockport at the Short Course National Finals to be held in August. Annie Groome was our top girl with four 1st places and a 3rd in the 50m breast. Our other individual winners were; Louis George, Mark St Clare, Phil Noone, Cydney Newman, Kate Burley and Kaz Melvin
Alan Mitchell, whilst over the moon with the medal haul, was extremely pleased with all his swimmers whom many have achieved personal bests in the last gala of the season (George to update database when convenient - this will be displayed on the Board at the pool).
