Canvey Island 50m sprint open (24th and 25th April 2004)

On a busy Saturday evening Harlow Penguin swimmers Louise Turvell, Rhianne Regan, Craig Warwick and Harry Newman represented our club against like minded swimmers from Ipswich,  Chelmsford, Southend, Rochford, West Suffolk, Basildon, Braintree and host club Canvey Island.

Saturdays races were very good and I believe all four swimmers received personal bests (George to advise in due course). Special mention to Craig Warwick who waited almost an hour after the final races to pick up medals where he came 4th in the 50m free and 2nd in the 50m fly. It was great to see both Louise and Rhianne competing for Harlow - just a shame a few more swimmers could not make it.

On Sunday evening, both Harry and Craig made the 35 mile trip down the A127 to swim again and were joined this time by the famous four; Senner, Luke, Ellis and John Reynolds who were very confident, if not nervous, after their recent wins in Junior Speedo relay races where they have won all the 95 born year age races to date. 

Craig Warwick was again a star securing his first ever podium win in the 50m backstroke!!! He also came second in the 100m IM and second in the 50m breaststroke.

Our young junior boys were fantastic in their relay races easily winning both the Freestyle and Medlay races. The noisy Harlow supporters were somewhat concerned, as I was, that a potential DQ for early takeover was going to ruin the evening but near perfection timing from Ellis ensured a fine first place. Both races saw Harlow Penguins set competition records

Note to all the readers that our relay swimmers , plus Craig and Harry, left senior swimmers to shame by continuous stretching and warming up during races despite the opportunity to run around for amusement - well done all.
