Essex Block D - (19th & 20th March 2005)

Club Coach Alan Mitchell was extremely satisfied and proud when the mighty Harlow Penguins retained 6th place out of 27 Essex teams after the final round of individual county championship events.

Cydney Newman was the first Penguin swimmer to score points when she secured 6th place in the 13 yrs 200IM. Our points total were greatly increased when Senner Koskocan managed 3rd and Chris Stevens achieved 4th in the 10yrs 200m backstroke event. If Senner had swam 0.16 seconds faster he would have got 1st!!!

Kaz Melvin continued our great performance on the Saturday morning when she also added to our points total by coming joint 5th in the 200m IM for 14yr olds. Mark St Clare secured 2nd place in the 200m free (15 yr old) with Karl Batorski also achieving 2nd in the 200m free for 16 yr plus age group.

Cyd started the afternoon session with another 6th place in the 400IM (13 yrs) and Karl achieved another second in the 400m free (16yrs + age group). For the whole of Saturday events Chris Stevens was our only 100m finalist and he managed an excellent 2nd in the 100m back 10 yrs & under.

On the Sunday Senner was our first podium medal winner when he secured 3rd place in the 10 yrs & under 200m free. In the same event Oliver Taffs made sure he was also a winner by securing 6th place. Mark added to his medal tally by coming 5th in the 15 yrs 200m fly. Karl was our first Essex Champion in Block D when he easily won the 100m backstroke open event. Jodie Want was our second 100m finalist and she came an excellent 4th in the 13yrs 100m breaststroke event. Mark St Clare was in the very next race and finished 3rd in the 15 yrs 100m fly. Kate Burley finished the morning session off with a commendable 2nd place in the open 100m free.

During the Sunday afternoon Karl achieved a further 2nd in the Open 200m backstroke. Senner swam well in the 10yrs & under 400m IM (our fingers were all crossed that he did not get dq'ed - and he did not) coming a very good 4th. In the 100m finals Karl secured our last 1st place by easily winning the Open 100m IM and Mark achieved a 4th in the 15 yrs 100m fly to round of another excellent weekend of swimming.
