Essex League Round 3 report (28th February 2004)

Harlow Penguins under strength team swam out of their skins tonight with a true "mental toughness" display of excellent swimming.

At galas, such as these, we should expect to have at least 32 competitive swimmers. Tonight, due to illness and other commitments, we only had 26 swimmers. Of special note goes to our under 15 girls who were all 12 yrs old and our Senior girls who were all just 15!! 

Despite this Harlow Penguins came 4th securing 182 points. There were MANY personal bests (George will advise these in due course) but Alan Mitchell was extremely pleased and impressed with everyone's contribution ranging from Robyn Thompson, Denva Keeble-Bradford, James Ilic and Thomas Smith (our youngest but quickly coming through talented swimmers) to Karl Batorski & Roxanne Hatch (our most experienced and loyal swimmers).

Find here all times and positions but unfortunately we have no splits as I was caught out by the referee for not supplying a Chief Timekeeper (thanks to Paul Davidson for jumping in at the last moment).

I would just like to mention every swimmer on this page as they were all truly fantastic. Numbers in brackets are if they secured an individual first or second place:-

Finally a great big thank you to the following people who helped me out. Paul Davidson (Chief Timekeeper - completely surprised on him), Hayley Want (timekeeper - again had no idea she was to be asked to do this!), Janis Warwick & Theresa Regan (taking the money on the door), Dean Marioni and Gill St Clare (recording on the announcers desk), Paul Cooper (announcer), Rhona Batorski (drinks on poolside for the weary officials), Eric (starting), Alan (coach). ALSO thanks to Ruby, Nicole and Jodie for being team managers on the evening and hassling everyone making sure they were all in the correct places for their races!!
