   Junior Speedo Round 1 (21st March 2004)  

A packed balcony of approximately 220 spectators roared on Harlow Penguins and the young teams from Erith, Basildon, Hoddesdon, Colchester and Griffins. Our team of 28 swimmers all swam magnificently, behaved impeccably and cheered on their team mates noisily.

Many of our younger swimmers were making their debut competitive swims but held their nerves throughout the evenings 49 races. All the swims were watched by Harlow Penguins Coaches, Teachers and Team Manager and will be discussed to improve on particular swimmer stroke technique and in general  race starts, takeovers and finishes. Needless to say Alan, Ken, Carol, Carmen and myself were very impressed by the quality of this evenings swims.

Special mention to the individual winners who were; Ria (9 yrs 25m breast), Senner (9 yrs 25m breast & 25m fly), Oliver (10 yrs 50m back), John (9 yrs 25m free), Jenna (11\u 50m breast), Luke (9yrs 25m back), Annie  (11\u 50m free). Our relay winners also deserve a mention too: Luke, Senner, Ellis and John (9yrs 4x 25m medley) AND (9yrs 4x 25m free), Oliver, Jamie, Daniel & Senner (10yrs 4x 25m free), and our squadron relay team of Amy, Senner, Holly, Oliver, Annie, Harry, Francesca and Alex who came first in the most exciting end of gala relay I have seen for some time!! 

In summary we had 12 first places, we also secured 10 second places, 5 thirds, 6 fourths, 6 fifths, 6 sixths and unusual for us 4 DQs. we will be looking at 4th, 5th and 6th places (and DQs) to see what  swim amendments we need to make to make us even more formidable in Round 2.

All results, positions and split times can be found here. George Hatch will update the PB database in between flying in and out of this country. Please be aware that split times can NOT be counted towards PBs but merely are there for your and our information. Split times are also not as accurate as full times so will not add back to the total time.
