Junior Speedo Round 2 - April 18th 2004
Stand in coach, Carol Melvin, was extremely delighted with tonight's gala performance. Harlows Junior Penguins bettered round 1 by comfortably achieving second place after 49 exciting races.
Many potential swimmers were still away basking in hot European countries but those in wet Essex saw Harlow win 14 races outright, come 2nd eight times and 3rd three times. During the last round in March we were disqualified 6 times - this was significantly improved with only TWO disqualifications both for swimming overage girls in the u9 relays (forced on me due to late removal of a swimmer).
There were many excellent individual swims and I am sure there were many personal best times (George will update these on the board in due course - thanks George). There were no debutant swimmers but many were only competing in their second or third galas.
The final gala, to be held Sunday 6th June (location yet to be confirmed), will determine which two teams are promoted to Division 1. Erith are strong favourite contenders with Bishops Stortford, Phoenix and ourselves most probably fighting for that all important second place. As such the Coaches and Team Manager of Harlow Penguins intend to send out the strongest team possible - this will be determined by reviewing current swims to date and potentially a special time trial for all Junior Speedo swimmers used to date.
Individual winners tonight were Oliver (10yrs 50m free and 10yrs 50m back), Senner (9yrs 25m breast and 9yrs 25m fly), Annie (u11 50m fly & u11 50m free), Luke (9 yrs 25m free & 9yrs 25m back) and Jenna (u11 50m breast)
