National Results (2005)

Congratulations to our 5 Penguins who swam extremely well in the National finals this year at Sheffield. The National Finals are the targets for the top 2% of all swimmers - the Finals (swam at the International 10x 50m lane pool in Sheffield) is where the cream of the UKs swimmers compete against each other at all ages and all distances. Swimmers may only compete in the Nationals if they successfully achieve the extremely tough qualifying times set by the ASA between October to June.

Making her first ever appearance at the Nationals young Annie Groome swam in the 100m backstroke where she finished 21st in the 11 yr old age group.

Louis George (making his third or fourth trip) swam in the 14 yr old 100m backstroke and came 8th in the final!

Mark St Clare (second appearance) swam in the 15\16rs 50m freestyle and came 52nd overall

Kaz Melvin (also making her second appearance) swam in four events. Whilst only being 14 she competed in the dual age group of 14\15 but still came a respectable 21st in the 100m backstroke, 17th in the 200m backstroke, 52nd in the 400m individual medley and 47th in the 200m individual medley

Karl Batorski (regular attendee!) swam in 6 events in the dual age 17\18 years but actually qualified for 7 events. He came 5th in the 200m individual medley, 10th in the 100m backstroke, 10th in the 100m fly, 13th in the 400m individual medley, 13th in the 100m breast and 32nd in the 50m free. Karl choose not to swim in the 100m freestyle race as he concentrated on the 6 events above.

Feedback from the swimmers, supporters and the Coach was that this was the most successful Nationals for Harlow Penguins yet. We may even take more swimmers next summer if promising stars Senner, Chris, Oliver, Jenna and others deliver their full potential.
