Time trial 2 (4th March 2005)

A record 73 swimmers swam either 25m or 50m over all four strokes. No stroke or stroke length was mandatory and lots of useful information was gathered by the Coaches, Teachers and the Team Manager watching. These time trials may seem chaotic but in the hour we put aside for these activities we get a lot out of it. It enables me to see the younger swimmers and put together a winning team for the forthcoming Junior Speedo. We take this very seriously and it was just a little disappointing that some of the older swimmers refused to do 50m even in backstroke or breaststroke (this hampers there chances of being picked considering those swimmers that did do the 50m strokes).

Nevertheless we have a squad of talented young swimmers. They swam really well and we picked up lots of areas that need improvement. It is also pleasing to see that we have a very healthy number of junior swimmers - they all behaved well and were willing to compete under competitive conditions (proper starter gun, proper referee). This gets them used to galas so as they get older they will overcome first night nerves.

The spreadsheet attached has all the names, distances and times on them. Please check and advise me (stevenewman1@yahoo.com) asap of any omissions, wrongly spelt names or if you have a query. I am very grateful to all the timekeepers who captured all the information - unfortunately it is not always possible to decipher the information they have passed over.

Thanks to Hayley, Jodie, Emily, Craig, Ryan, Abby, Becky, Nicole, Tom, Calum and anyone else who i may have forgotten that were a timekeeper - it is great to see so many Senior swimmers helping out. Also thanks to Eric (sorry I lost your 12 stopwatches), Steve (referee in the white shirt) and Alan (Club Coach) for moving the time trials through at a reasonably quick pace.

No times tonight will count towards club records as no Chief Timekeeper was available. However, I am hoping Lesley Foot will update her PB database.
