Report from Essex League Division 2 Round 1
Held at Colchester Pool Saturday 18th October 2003

An enthusiastic Harlow Penguin team Captained admirably by Roxanne Hatch and Adam Angold came narrowly 6th against opposition from Colchester, Braintree, Becontree, Chelmsford and eventual winners Edmonton Phoenix.

The Harlow Penguins had two debutants, Peter and Michael Haagensen, and many other swimmers making only their third or fourth appearances representing Harlow Penguins. Everyone swam extremely well with many personal bests being achieved. The detailed results can be found by downloading the link below.

Alan Mitchell was extremely pleased with the effort put into each race, the stroke technique (no disqualifications, except two races where I had to swim overage swimmers), the team camaraderie and swimming times achieved. Every swimmer, except James Watts who was just returning from a bout of illness, swam at least one individual race and two relays. As stated on the coach, to and from Colchester, ALL and EVERY swimmer will swim different strokes in the four rounds including most swimmers favourite - freestyle.

1st places were hard to come by on the night but Harlows loyal  fan base saw wins by; Sarah Hughes (Open 100 back), Annie Groome (u11 25 fly) and the Girls Open 4x 50m freestyle relay team made up of Faye Angold, Sarah Hughes, Kaz Melvin and Roxanne Hatch.

Thanks to the following people for giving up their time to make it possible for Harlow Penguin swimmers to compete; Eric (Referee), Ken (timekeeper), Alan M. (Coach), Paul D. (Splits), Carol (Girls team manager), Ria and Oli D'Arcy (beautiful cheerleaders)
