Club Champs 2004 (November 6th)
Five hot, tiring hours were spent with hardly a break as swimmers, spectators and officials all melted watching over 80 heats and finals of races over the four normal swim disciplines plus 100IM.
From our youngest swimmer Max McCusker (5) to our eldest Kate Burley (17) they all swam their hearts out going for those all important medals and personal best times. We had a few disqualifications but that is to be expected from our debut competitive swimmers to our National Swimmers (who perhaps should know better!!!).
A brand new car was on offer for anyone who beat Karl Batorski but as usual Club Coach Alan Mitchell had not told anyone it was a dinky car! Nevertheless there were excellent swims from all our swimmers which had Alan, plus the other coaches, purring with delight. These times, as with all the times we collect, will help with future selection of swimmers in forthcoming galas.
The pool was booked for five hours and it was a shame we did not get a 15 min rest (as promised), we did not hand out all the medals (as promised) or allow the swimmers some fun time (as promised) but we learnt some valuable lessons which hopefully will improve next years championships. Thank you all for bearing with us - all unclaimed medals will be awarded at this forthcoming Friday night - Club night.
