Club Champs 400m Free - (29th March 2005)
A late flurry of last minute entries swelled the number of competing swimmers in the 400m freestyle Club Champs to 30. A highly enjoyable evening saw Jenna Batorski (Junior Girls), Alex Francey (Junior Boys), Kaz Melvin (Senior Girls) and Karl Batorski (Senior Boys) winning the outright races.
Seven girls aged 12 and under competed in the first event where all appear to have achieved personal best times. There were some debut swims over this distance including Emily Sutton and Natalie Ling - all of the girls impressed watching coaches Alan, Carol and Carmen.
The Junior boys event had 9 competitors with Alex Francey coming out on top. Senner, just 9 years old, was second with Harry (3rd) beating Chris into 4th.
The Senior girls event saw the race of the night with winner Kaz Melvin out touching Cydney Newman, by less than half a second. Cydney swam her last competitive race for Harlow Penguins moving to Redbridge SC in the next few days. Louise secured 3rd with Ruby Groome in 4th. Both Jodie and Holly knocked over 1 minute and 45 seconds off their respective entry times.
The Senior boys event was won by Karl, with Mark (2nd), Louis (3rd), Matt (4th) and Craig (5th). Craig also managed to swim 30 plus seconds faster than his entry time hopefully meaning a new impressive personal best time!
Thanks to everyone who helped officiate - Alan (referee), Carmen and Carol (turn judges), Paul (Chief Timekeeper), Eric (starter), Hayley, Emily, Mark, Dean and Paul (lovely timekeepers).
The next club champs is Tuesday 5th April - 400im. We currently only have 13 entries so will swim this event FOUR LANES ONLY! This will allow us to use the other two lanes for normal training at this important time of the season.
