Harlow Penguins - Club Championships 800m Freestyle (Tuesday 19th April 2005)
The last event of this seasons Club Championships took place on Tuesday night. 20 swimmers, including Nicole from South Africa, swam in 4 heats to determine the 800m Junior and Senior, Boy and Girls champions.
With only an hour available to us the evening was more chaotic than normal with last minute inclusions and withdrawals. Nevertheless there was an excellent night of competitive swimming with everyone competing well, many achieving significant personal best times and a lot of tired bodies the following morning.
The Junior Boys event was won by nine year old Senner Koskocan in an amazing time of only 11 minutes 47 seconds. Harry Newman eventually wore out Luke Marioni to secure second and third places respectively with Chris and John (also 9) coming 4th and 5th.
The Junior Girls race was wrapped up by Annie Groome in a time of 11:21.22. Jenna got second place some twenty seconds later with Ria Melvin just outfighting Holly Sims for the eventual 3rd spot (there was an excellent conclusion to this friendly competitive personal battle between the two girls - well done!!!).
Senior Girls was won by Kaz Melvin in a time of 9:56.85 only one and a half seconds quicker than Louise Kendall. Kate Burley comfortably got the third place and Ruby Groome the 4th. Both Jodie and Holly Want beat their previous personal best times by over 1 and a half minutes each and came 5th and 6th respectively. Nicole, funny surname, swam a time only race (in the Senior Boys heat) and achieved a respectable time of 11.29:06.
The Senior boys event was won by Karl Batorski in a time of 9:12.44. Mark St Clare was second, with Matt Cooper just beating ever improving Craig Warwick into fourth place.
