Harlow Penguins sign off with another
fantastic performance
National Speedo round 3 (December 13th)
The Penguins confirmed their Division 1 status for 2004 by securing 4th place in tonight's speedo match held at Harlow. We welcomed swimmers from Cambridge, Teddington, Camden Swiss Cottage and Borough of Waltham Forest. The sixth team, Potters Bar, pulled out earlier in the afternoon.
Our performance tonight was as good as the previous two rounds. We took great delight in beating Teddington who had beaten us in Round 2. We only missed 3rd place by 13 points against a weakened City of Cambridge team whose Senior (student) swimmers had gone home for the Xmas holidays. Nevertheless our own swimmers performed brilliantly.
Swimming tonight for the first time for Harlow Penguins in
almost 18 months was Sam Blunt now a student at Loughborough University. Sam
retains 1st claim with Harlow Penguins when not swimming for Loughborough.
We think Sam grabbed two Club records - we will check with George over Xmas.
We won 9 races outright, coming second in 6 others. We were dq'ed in 2 races but
that was because we had to swim an overage swimmer twice (thanks for helping us
out Jodie). Special thanks to Holly Sims and Ryan Budd for agreeing to swim at
the last moment.
Our individual winners were : - Sam Blunt (mens 200IM - 2.06:22) & (mens 100m back 59.43), Phil Noone (13\u 100m breast 1:20.16), Louis George (13\u 100m back 1:07.81), Kaz Melvin (13\u 100m back 1.13:31), Oliver D'Arcy (15\u 100m freestyle 56.28), Cydney Newman (13\u 100m freestyle 1:05.03), Karl Batorski (15\u 100m breast 1:11.85) - we also won the boys 15u 4x 50m freestyle relay (Oliver, Karl, Chris & Joel).
Splits can be found here - these also includes times and positions
Finally a big thank you for the following people helping us out - Janis & Mary (collecting entry money), Dean (timekeeper), Paul (announcer), Max and Gill (recorders), Ken (splits), Eric (starter), Alan (Coach) and our special cheerleaders; Ria, Holly W. and Jo Cooper.
