East Region Swimming Championships
During May and June swimmers from the Harlow Penguins Swimming Club have been making the journey to the 50m Pool at the University of East Anglia in Norwich to compete in the East Region Swimming Championships. They were competing against 6 other counties including teams from Essex, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.
The Youth Championships were the first to be held where 5 Harlow swimmers aged from 15 made the tough qualifying times these were
Alex Francey 15, Ruby Groome 16, Louise Kendall 16, and Jodie Want 16.
Alex Francey 15 competed in in the 50m Free, Fly and Breast, 100m Breast and Free and 200m Free achieving PB’s in most of his races and won a very respectable 10th place in the 200m Breast in 2.48.38
Ruby Groome 16 achieved excellent times in the 50m free. She finished 9th in the 50m Fly in 32.96 and made the final in the 100m Back finishing 6th in 1.11.70.
Making the final in the 100m Breast was Jodie Want finishing 5th in 1.21.78. Later she found herself in another final finishing 6th in the 50m Breast in 37.79. Jodie also competed in the 50m Fly and 200m Individual Medley.
Showing her usual form in the long distance swims Louise Kendall picked up a Bronze Medal in the 1500m Free in 18.39.90. Louise also finished 4th and 6th place in the 800m and 400m Free respectively. Louise also competed in the 50m, 100m and 200m Freestyle races.
The next competition in the Regional Championships saw the younger swimmers compete in the age group categories during the weekends of
2–3rd June and 9-10th June Annie Groome 13, Senner Koskocan 12 and Chris Stevens 12 this time made the journey to Norwich to compete against some very tough competition.
Annie Groome 13 competed in the 100m and 200m Backstroke and made the final of each race achieving a 6th place in the 100m in 1.13.44 and just missed out on a medal coming 4th in the 200m in 2.34.40
Chris Stevens 12 won a Bronze Medal in 100m freestyle in 1.03.65 and just missed out in a place in the finals winning 9th place in 100m Backstroke. Chris also competed in 200m freestyle achieving an 11th place, 200m Individual Medley and 200m Backstroke achieving 12th place in each.
Senner Koskocan 12 competed in a total of 9 races winning 2 Bronze Medals in the 100m and 200m Breastroke in 1.23.80 and 3.00.64 respectively. Senner also achieved a 4th place in 800m Freestyle and a 6th place in 1500m. Senner also competed in 200m and 400m Free, 200m and 400m Individual Medley and 200m Backstroke
At the end of the Regional Age Group competition Chris achieved 10th place and Senner came 11th in their age group.
