Essex Senior Championships & Junior Relays 25/26 Nov 2006

This event was on 25th and 26th November 2006. The qualifying times are all senior times but juniors meeting these times enter the open events. All individual events are swum as open heats and finals, junior places being allocated based on heat times. Junior (u 17) competitors can win open awards and junior awards in the same event.

The next big event is the first block of the Essex age group championships on 20th and 21st January 2007. This block is all the 50 metre events and Junior/Senior relays and we want to field a large team of qualifiers.

Relays

As part of this meet every year there are also the 9\10 and 11\12 year old medley and freestyle relays. We had full teams for the 9\10 girls and 11\12 girls and boys but no team for the 9\10 boys. Apologies to Matthew Walton and Tomas Stevens that we did not have others in this age group with suitable times to make up the team.

We had good teams for the other categories but late withdrawals from both girls’ teams left us with no 9\10 team and last minute substitutions to make up the 11\12 girls’ team. Our apologies go to Tori Koskocan and Redgi Keeble Bradford for being let down and not getting a swim, and our thanks to Sarah Pattison and Danielle Williamson for stepping in at the last minute to the 11\12 team and to Denva Keeble Bradford for offering to swim in spite of injury.

The 11\12 boys’ team was never in doubt and came 7th in the medley (Chris Stevens, John Reynolds, Ryan Wolfe, and Senner Kokocan) and made the final in the Freestyle (Adam Dunkley replacing John Reynolds) coming 5th in an excellent time, in which all boys achieved PBs.

The 11\12 girls (Natalie Ling, Danielle Williamson, Robyn Thompson, Shannen Ellis – freestyle, Natalie,Danielle, Ria Melvin and Sarah Pattison – medley) swam well, some having their first taste of county competition.

This is the first year that we have had so few teams at the Essex relays and we hope for an injection of enthusiasm and team loyalty next year.
