HPSC Eastern Region report 13th Nov. 2006

A.S.A East Region Championships 2006

Harlow Penguins Swimming Club took a total of 5 swimmers to the University of East Anglia, Norwich to compete in the ASA East Region Championships during the weekend of 4th and 5th November.

Tom Burley 15 competed in the 50m and 100m freestyle achieving impressive times in both with 27.33 and 57.98 secs respectively. He then went onto gain a personal best time of 29.07 secs in the 50m Butterfly.

Ian Edmunds 17 also competed in the 50m, 100m and 200m Freestyle also gaining excellent times with 26.69, 58.09 and 2.12.98 sec respectively.

Jodie Want 15, made her debut in an East Region final in 2 events over the weekend. The 50m Breastroke where she came 7th with a time of 37.59 and 100m Breastroke where she came 8th in a time of 1.22.34. Jodie also competed in the 50m backstroke 37.33 and 200m Individual Medley 2.23.38.

Louise Kendall 16, continued the Penguins success when she won 2 Gold Medal/Trophies in the 800m Freestyle in 9.33.83 and 1500m Freestyle in 18.20.18, both times are close to National Qualifying Times for the National Championships to be held in August 2007.

Louise also competed in the 200m Freestyle 2.12.95, 100m Butterfly 1.14.39 and 100m Freestyle 1.04.43.

But the star of the competition must be Kaz Melvin 15, who won 2 Gold Medal/Trophies in the 100m Backstroke in 1.07.82 and 200m Backstroke in 2.24.22 both times where Championship Event Best Times and National Qualifying Times.

Kaz then went onto win a further 2 Bronze Medals in 100m and 200m Breastroke in 1.18.01 and 2.47.82 respectively and a 4th place in 200m Individual Medley 2.31.52 and in the 400m Individual Medley 5th place in 5.15.85.

Alan Mitchell, head Coach said it has been a very good weekend for the Harlow Penguin swimmers especially Kaz and Louise who had just returned from 5 days at a Essex County Training Camp in Cyprus.
