The 2nd round of the Essex County Swimming Championships took place over the weekend of 17 and 18 February at Waltham Forest Pool and Track.
Harlow Penguins Swimming Club took 14 swimmers who had qualified for the Championships. The Penguins achieved 15 final places and came home with a respectable collection of medals and with most swimmers gaining Personal Bests meant Harlow Penguins Swimming Club continue to lie in 7th place in the Championships.
Kaz Melvin 16, won 2 Gold medals in the 100m Breaststroke 1.15.32, this was a personal best for Kaz, and 100m Individual Medley 1.08.02. Kaz also went on to win 6th place in 800m Freestyle 9.31.93 and an 8th place in the 200m Freestyle 2.14.15.
Senner Koskocan 11, also won 2 Gold Medals in the 200m and 400m Individual Medley in 2.40.73 and 5.37.18. Senner later competed in the 200m Butterfly and came 6th 2.56.41. Unfortunately Senner just missed out on gaining a place in the 100m Backstroke final as in the heats he tied 6th so had to compete in an exciting swim off against a swimmer from Romford Town.
Chris Stevens 12, won a Bronze medal in 100m Backstroke achieving a personal best of 1.14.83. Chris also went on to beat all his personal best times during the weekend in the 100m and 200m Individual Medley races in which he came 5th in both in 1.16.29 and 2.42.28 respectively. Chris also went on to gain a 6th place in 200m Backstroke 2.41.67.
Alex Francey 14, continued the Penguins success and won a place in the final of the 100m Breaststroke where he came 5th in 1.14.90. Alex also went onto gain 4th place in the 200m Breaststroke 2.40.57.
Tomas Stevens 9, smashed his personal best time and gained a 6th place in the final of the 100m Individual Medley 1.32.98. Tomas then went on to compete in the 200m Freestyle 2.56.42 gaining 7th place and another personal best.
Another finalist was Ria Melvin 11, who competed in 100m Breaststroke and came 5th in 1.31.95.
Also competing over the weekend were Thomas Burley 15 who came 7th in 100m Freestyle 57.83 Ruby Groome who also came 7th in 100m Backstroke in 1.11.20.
Other swimmers competing were Craig Warwick 16, 100m Backstroke (16th) 1.06.34, 100m Butterfly (16th) 1.05.37, 100m Freestyle (26th) 1.01.62 and 200m Breaststroke (9th) 2.53.00.
Louise Kendall 16, 800m Freestyle (7th ) 9.34.69, 200m Freestyle (5th) 2.13.06 and 100m Backstroke (12th) 1.14.51.

Annie Groome 13, 100m Butterfly (9th) 1.14.95
