Harlow Penguins Swimming Club held onto their 7th place after the 3rd round of the Essex County Swimming Championships during the weekend of 3rd and 4th March. Winning 4 Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze Medals and a further 4 final places.
A total of 10 swimmers qualified for the 3rd round of the Championships. All swimmers swam personal best times and most gained Eastern Region qualifying times, with Kaz Melvin 16, also achieving Club records and National qualifying times in the 200m and 400m Individual Medley. She won Gold and Silver medals in both races in 2.23.87 and 5.04.27 respectively and also a respectable 6th place in the gruelling 1500m Freestyle in 18.59.86.
Senner Koskocan 11, competed in 4 races over the weekend and walked away with medals from each. He won Gold Medals in 200m Backstroke 2.38.49 and 100m Individual Medley in 1.14.97 breaking the event best time, which had been held since 2004 by the Borough of Redbridge. Senner not only broke this in the heats but also went on to smash it again in the Final. If that was not enough he also took Silver in the 100m Breastroke 1.23.06 and Bronze in the 400m Freestyle 4.59.62.
Also winning Gold for the Penguins was Annie Groome 13, in the 100m Backstroke 1.10.04 and 5th place in 200m Backstroke 2.34.03 and an 11th and 12th place in the 100m Free 1.06.19 and 100m Individual Medley 1.16.39.
Just missing out on the medals were Alex Francey 14 who achieved a 4th place in 100m Freestyle 58.42 and then gaining 8th place in a brilliant 200m Freestyle race by knocking 10 seconds off his personal best time coming back in 2.08.48.
In the exhausting 1500m race Louise Kendall 16, took 4th place in 18.03.97 and also 12th and 16th place in 200m Individual Medley 2.38.49 and 100m Butterfly 1.14.25.
Chris Stevens 12 achieved a 7th place in 200m Freestyle in 2.22.20. While Jodie Want 15, came 8th in the 200m Individual Medley 2.35.26 and Ruby Groome 15, came 8th in the 100m Freestyle in 1.05.14.
Also Competing during the weekend were Craig Warwick 16 who came 18th in 200m Individual Medley and Ria Melvin 11, came 13th in 200m Breastroke 3.15.87
