Nine Harlow Penguins made the very early start to compete in the Canvey Island Open on Sunday 18th November.  All the swimmers tried their hardest and there were some excellent personal bests.

Despite having missed training last week through illness, Vikki achieved impressive positions in all her events, two 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

Redgi was very focussed and gained 4 out of 5 personal bests.  Excellent stroke techniques and turns.

It was lovely to see Denva return to competitive swimming and be rewarded with 4 medals and two personal bests.

Tori was a treasure, always ready for her races and determined to perform well.  She was thrilled to get a medal in the backstroke and knock a second off her breast stroke PB.

John was on form, 5 medals and 3 personal bests.  He was particularly pleased with his 4 second PB in the 100m IM.

Danny is an excellent competitor and always tries his best.  With 2 medals and an excellent 4 second PB in the 100m IM.

Matthew had a very successful competition picking up two 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th in his age group.  He should also be pleased with two personal bests in the 50m back and 50m fly.

Ellis improved his positions in his age group this week and his dives and turns were much better.  It is lovely to see Ellis entering these Open galas and I’m sure it will not be long before he starts getting higher results.

Smiley Mason swam two races in the morning, picked up a silver medal in the 50m Fly and does a 2 sec personal best in the Breast stroke.  He has become such an asset to the team and a pleasure to have poolside.

I would like to thank all the swimmers for their excellent performances and wonderful company poolside throughout the day.  They did Harlow Penguins proud.
