Essex Championships Block B, report 17th Feb 2008



Harlow Penguins Swimming Club took on the big clubs again in the 2nd round of the Essex Swimming Championships at Thurrock over the weekend.

Chris Stevens 13 smashed a 11 year Harlow record when he won a 4th place in the 100m IM with a time of 1.10.90 (pb). The old record being 1.12.10. Chris also won 4th place in the 200m back 2.30.36 (pb) and gained an Eastern Region qualifying time.

Senner Koskocan 12 was the only Penguin to achieve a medal position when he got a Silver in the 100m IM with 1.12.63 (pb) and a bronze in the 400m IM in 5.26.19 (pb) and Eastern Region qualifying time. Senner also got a 6th place in 200m back in 2.38.06.

Tomas Stevens 10, gained a good 4th place in 100m IM in 1.21.58 (pb). Tomas also achieved personal bests and East Region qualifying times in his other races including 200m Breaststroke, 400m IM in 6.33.04 and the 200m Free 2.46.88.

The weekend also saw Annie Groome 14, win a 4th place in the 100m backstroke 1.11.28. Annie also competed in the 100m Free 1.05.67 and 100m IM 1.15.26 (pb)

The Penguins had 8 swimmers competing on Saturday and 7 on Sunday. Representing Harlow were Craig Warwick 17, 100m IM 1.05.72, 200m Back 2.21.89, Ruby Groome 16, 100m Free 1.04.10 and 100m Back 1.10.84 both East Region times, Kaz Melvin 17, 100m Back 1.11.23 and 100m IM 1.11.89, Louise Kendall 17, 100m Free 1.05.36 and Matthew Walton 11, 100m IM 1.26.22.
