Essex Championships Block D, report 29th/30th March 2008



Penguins Finish 11th at County Championships

During the weekend of 29th and 30th March, Harlow Penguins Swimming Club saw 5 of their swimmers compete in the fourth and final round of the Essex County Championships.

Senner Koskocan 12 had a successful weekend swimming winning 2 silver medals in the 100m Breastroke in 1.22.20 and gained an excellent 4 second personal best time of 2.57.43 in the 200m Breaststroke. Senner also went on to win a bronze medal in the gruelling 1500m Freestyle gaining an amazing 38 second personal best and a Regional qualifying time. Senner also swam to 7th place in the 200m Freestyle in 2.24.04.

The weekend also saw Annie Groome 14 gain 2 Regional qualifying times in the 200m Backstroke 2.34.97 where she came 8th and a time of 1.11.72 in the 100m Butterfly gave her an 7th place and a personal best time.

Victoria Malcolm 12 made the final in the 100m Freestyle in the heats she swam a 4 second personal best in 1.06.52, and in the final she came 6th in 1.07.16. Another 4 second personal best was achieved when Victoria swam 100m Backstroke 17.17.96 (18th place).

Another finalist during the weekend was Craig Warwick 17 who in the heats of the 100m Backstroke gained a Regional qualifying time and personal best of 1.03.50. Whilst in the final swam 1.03.97.

Kaz Melvin 17 swam 200m Breastroke and just missed out on a medal coming 4th with a Regional qualifying time of 2.48.41.

At the end of the Championships the Penguins finished 11th out of the 26 Essex clubs competing.

Individually at the end of the Championships saw the following swimmers placed in the top 20 in the County:
