Junior Speedo M11 League, Round 1 The first Round of the Junior Speedo League took place on Sunday 27th April at the new Braintree Swimming Centre. 23 swimmers competed for Harlow Penguins and despite not getting many team points we had a great afternoon. Without any 9 year old girls and only three 9 year old boys (a relay team needs 4) we were nine events out of 49 down before we started. However every swimmer tried their best and some excellent times were recorded (see results opposite). Carmen and I regard these galas as vital in giving swimmers the experience of competitive swimming, improving their times and racing techniques and team building. It was wonderful to watch some swimmers competing in their first gala for the club and I hope they will continue in the future. I can honestly say the swimmers were a pleasure to be poolside with and I look forward to spending Sunday afternoon in a fortnight's time with them all again, same place, same time.
