Junior Speedo M11 League, Div2. Round 2 What a difference two weeks can make! Harlow Penguins swimmers competed in Round 2 of the Junior Speedo League on Sunday 10th May at Barnet Copthall Pool, two weeks after Round 1. The swimmers showed much more confidence and determination to improve their times and this showed in the excellent relays and individual times. There were some much closer races with the other competing teams. In the Year 9 relays Filip Kusnir knocked 4 secs off his 25m freestyle and Luke Withers 2 seconds off his individual 25m Breast stroke time. Emily Poolman swam a second faster than round one in the 25m breaststroke and achieved a 50m fly time in 1.07.22, a brave effort. All the 9 year olds tried their best and worked well as a team in the relays. Our 10 year old boys fought hard and were rewarded with some excellent personal best times. Bradley Veitch achieved a brilliant first place in the 50m breaststroke and knocked 3 seconds off his 25m breast stroke time. He is certainly a swimmer to watch out for in the future. With only one 10 year old girl, Darci Berry, once again our 9 year old girls had to join her for the relays and they improved their times. Top marks to Chloe Scott in the 11 year old girls. She is a valuable relay team member and swam a staggering 5 seconds faster on her 25m breaststroke in the medley relay compared to last round. Tia Brown, Jasmine Hind and Madison Middlecott all achieved personal bests in their individual events. The 11 year old boys faced some tough competition in the relays but very pleasing individual results in 50m backstroke by Joseph Walker and Joel Chan in 50m Breaststroke, both getting personal best times. Mason Arnold deserves a special mention as he achieved a 2nd place in the 50m freestyle for 11 year olds and an amazing 3rd, swimming up in the 12 year old 50m freestyle. With our 12 year old girls up against a swimmer who swam 29 seconds 50m freestyle, they still swam well and improved their relay times. Our thanks to 11 year old Jasmine Hind who stepped up into the 12 year old team once again. Dana Pittman knocked 4 seconds off her individual 50m breast stroke. Our 12 year old boy Luke Guerrati was joined by three of our 11 year olds in the relays and it was great to see Lewis Sims make his debut this year as a freestyle relay swimmer. Luke gained two third positions in 50m fly and 50m backstroke both in personal best times. Harlow Penguins came 6th overall, but we are determined to better our position in the final round on Sunday 28th June.
