Junior Speedo M11 League, Div2. Round 3 A successful end to the Junior Speedo league for our wonderful swimmers. There were some unfortunate absences from the team in this final round, but all the swimmers who could make it stepped up to the blocks determined to improve their personal best times from the previous rounds and represent their club in style. There were also some novice gala swimmers who contributed to our overall score. Harlow Penguins scored 40 more points than in the previous round with no disqualifications. The 9 year old boys relay team; Luke Withers, Filip Kusnir, Xavier Palas-Cuniah and Simon Kolarik came second and third their relays knocking seconds off their previous times. Luke Withers came an impressive 2nd in his 25m individual breaststroke race. The nine year old girls; Erin Fitzpatrick, Emily Poolman, Eloise Mackown, Victoria and Nicola Keane, had a very busy gala, having to swim in their own age group and for the ten year olds. Erin Fitzpatrick started them off well in the individual 25m freestyle by winning her race and this was followed by Emily Poolman winning her 25m breaststroke race. The ten year old boys; Bradley Veitch, Magnus Koskocan, Samuel Kolarik and newcomer Stanley Shinn swam well in their relays finishing third in the medley relay and second in the freestyle relay. Once again Bradley performed well in his 50m breaststroke race coming 2nd. Our eleven year old girls were joined by Lauren Stapleton and they all swam hard. Jasmine Hind showed everyone what a promising swimmer she is by coming second in her 50m freestyle race and third in the 50m butterfly. Our ten year old Bradley Veitch joined Luke Sears, Joseph Walker and Mason Arnold in the eleven year old relays and they came 3rd in both. Mason also put in an excellent second place in the 50m freestyle and luke Sears knocked seconds off his 50m butterfly time. Finally it was the last junior speedo Gala for our twelve year olds; Tori Koskocan, Dana Pittman, Kimberley Oakman, Luke Guerrati and Joshua Beach. Tori and Luke have represented Harlow Penguins in this league for the last four years and once again they did not let us down. Luke swam an excellent 50m butterfly, coming 3rd and Tori came second in the 50m backstroke and 3rd in the 50m butterfly. On behalf on the club I would like to thank all the swimmers for their hard effort and competitive spirit. This year has been the beginning of something special at Harlow Penguins and with our excellent coach Carmen Byfield the future looks promising for swimming in Harlow. My thanks to Carmen (coach) Nicola Arnold (judge) Cathy Sears (timekeeper), Claire Wilson (Split times) Amy Sears, John Reynolds and Ruby Groome (Assistant managers) and to all the parents who came along to support us.
