Hoddesdon Open - 5th September 2009

Harlow Penguins SC started the season in magnificent form. Nineteen swimmers swam in the Hoddesdon 2009 Open gala on Saturday 5th September 2009 and together they won 17 gold medals, 7 silvers medals and and 4 bronze medals, plus 10 certificates for having improved their times so well they went faster than the time limits set.

Despite the reduced swimming time over the Summer the more experienced swimmers pushed their personal best times higher. Georgia Andrew (13) gold medalled in 50m and 200m breaststroke, John Reynolds (14) gold medalled in 200m Individual Medley, 200m Butterfly and 200m Breaststroke and Danny Chan (14) also achieved 3 gold medals in 200m Freestyle, 50m Breaststroke and 50m Butterfly. Luke Guerrati (12) knocked seconds off his personal best times and picked up 3 speeding certificates.

It was great to see the Club's novice gala swimmers pick up their first medals too. Gabriella Littler (10) won gold in her 200m backstroke, Chloe Scott (11) 4th in her 200m Breaststroke, Leon Dackombe (10) Silver in 50m Breaststroke, Filip Kusnir (9) won a gold in 200m Backstroke and two silvers, Ryan Scott(9) bronze in 50m backstroke, Stanley Shinn (10) bronze in 50m Breaststroke and Tomas Clark (9) finished the gala on a high by getting gold in 50m Breaststroke. The future at the Club is very exciting with such enthusiastic and talented youngsters.

Tori Koskocan (12) picked up 4 medals including a gold in 200m Butterfly, Jasmine Hind (12) picked up 3 medals, Tia Brown (11) won gold in her 50m Breaststroke plus a speeding certificate in 50m Freestyle, Emily Poolman (9) won gold in 200m Freestyle and two speeding certificates in 200m breaststroke and 200m Backstroke, Mason Arnold (11) won gold in 50m Butterfly and a speeding certificate in 200m Backstroke, Bradley Veitch (10) won a gold, two silvers and a speeding certificate, Ellis Singleton (13) picked up a 4th, 5th and 6th place medal and Joel Chan (11) two silvers and two 4th place medals.

Head Coach Carmen Byfield was very pleased with the swimmers' performances. With the prospect of training in a new pool getting closer and closer the Harlow Penguins Swimmers are getting very excited and are all trying their best to show the town they are alive and kicking and the club can only go from strength to strength in the future.
