Essex County Age Group Championships Block A - 18th Feb. 2012 Penguins have a County Champion!! Tomas Stevens won the 14yr 50m backstroke in a new Championship best time of 28.82s and just to add to the success we had 2 swimmers in the final, Mason Arnold came 6th in a time of 31.04s. Not to be outdone by the older boys Silvester Havrillay came 4th in the 9yr 50m back in a PB of 40.98. Earlier in the day, Ellie Hind, swimming in her first County Champs swam a creditable 4:07.60 in the 200m Brst to finish 16th and boys captain Kyle Panton swimming against the county’s fastest swimmers recorded a PB of 27.41s to finish 20t Sunday 18th Feb 2012 – Block A Sunday was our busiest day at County, with 8 swimmers competing in 23 events. In the first event of the morning Jasmine Hind swam in the 200m Brst finishing 14th in a time of 3:07.50. This was followed by 5 swimmers in the Boys 100IM, Silvester Havrillay’s 1:34.07 qualified him 7th for the 9 yr old final where he finished 6th in an improved time of 1:32.47 (PB) Owen Stringer’s time of 1:32.93 took 5 secs off his PB to finish 9th (1st reserve for final). Bradley Veitch qualified 8th for the 13 year old final in 1:14:00 (PB) and finished 8th. In the boys 14 yr old IM, Mason Arnold just missed out on a final place in a time of 1:09.39 finishing 9th. Tomas Stevens qualified 6th for the final in a time of 1:08.26 (PB) where he finished 8th. In the afternoon session, Jasmine Hind swam 39.25 (PB) in the Girls 14yrs 50m Brst to finish 10th. The following event was the Boys 50m Butterfly, Club had 4 qualifiers, Silvester Havrillay, Bradley Veitch, Mason Arnold and Tomas Stevens. All 4 boys qualified for finals, Silvester finished 5th in the 9yr age category in a time of 42.66, Bradley’s 31.74 (PB) gained him 6th place, Mason finished 8th in the final after setting a PB in the heats of 30.36, Tomas Stevens qualified 4th and improved to 3rd in the final with a PB of 28.84s. Following after the boys were Chloe Mitchell and Amy Edwards competing in their first County Champs in the 50m Freestyle. Chloe in the 12yr age group, recorded a time of 32.86 to finish 21st and Amy in the 13yr age group finished 19th in a time of 31.42 (PB). To finish off the session, Silvester Havrillay, Bradley Veitch and Mason Arnold competed in the 200m Freestyle, all 3 boys recorded PB’s, Silvester’s time of 2:49.09 gained him 4th place, Bradley was 6th in a time of 2:13.67 and Mason’s 2:13.02 enabled him to finish 9th. All in all this was a great start for Penguins, a County Champion, 10 finalist’s, and 17 PB’s in 31 events. Well done all swimmers. Martin Stringer Head Coach |
