National Arena League Round 3 Results Some great swims on Saturday night in the third and final round of this year’s National Swimming League. When the Club entered the league, we took a huge gamble on whether Penguins could even get a team out, but the swimmers have responded magnificently and way exceeded expectations. The attached file details the results, official split times off the electronic timing for the relays will follow. Swimmers claimed 6 first places, pleasing to see 2 relay squads winning their events however pride of place goes to Bradley Veitch who stormed home in the 13 & U 100m Free, winning by nearly 12 secs and recording a PB of 63.83 secs. Bradley’s feat was closely followed by Mason Arnold in the 15 & U 100m Free, his time of 62.46 was also a PB in a closely fought race. Not to be outdone by the boys, Girls club Captain, Jasmine Hind won the Girls 15 & U Breaststroke in a time of 1:26.95 and Charlotte Barton won the Girls Open Freestyle in 1:06.65. In addition to the 6 first places, swimmers from the Club claimed 8 second place finishes, with Bradley Veitch the 13 & U 100m and Mason Arnold in the 15 & U backstroke, setting further PB’s of 1:16.15 and 1:12.14 respectively. Throughout the gala there were some notable swims and in total there were 11 PB’s set, perhaps surprisingly – all by the Boys Team! It was good to see some best times being set by some of the Clubs younger swimmers, namely Silvester Havrillay and Ollie Stacey, however not to be outdone by his younger brother Toby Stacey also set a PB in the 13 & U 100m Breaststroke. Probably the best PB of the night was set by Connor Porter, who sliced more than 4 sec off of his 100m Backstroke time. Ellis Singleton continues his steep learning curve as a Breaststroker, recording an impressive 3 second improvement in the 15 & U 100m Breaststroke. With the boys team setting all the PB’s on the night, it was good that Boys Club Captain, Kyle Panton should also prevail however it was also probably the most frustrating swim of the night as he was just 2 tenths of a second short of being the Club’s first sub 60 sec 100m Freestyler since the Club moved into the Leisurezone. Well done! Martin Stringer |
